Transcript InfoField | The Campanile or Bell Tower is a square structure 282 feet high, which is regarded as one of the finest works in existence of this particular class. It has four stories richly decorated with coloured marble, the windows of each floor being embellished with beautiful tracery in the Italian Gothic style. The edifice was begun by Giotto in 1334-6, carried on after his death by Pisano and Talenti and completed in 1837. Four hundred and fourteen steps conduct the visitor to the summit, which affords a magnificent view of the city and its environs. |
