Description The Fernsehturm was built by the communist regime of the GDR as "a highly visible symbol of the permanence of East Berlin and the GDR (itself)" (the quote is from the Rough Guide). Unfortunately for them the sunshine reflecting off the globe on the tower forms a cross visible even in western Berlin and it seems that the inhabitants of both sides of the city used to refer to it as 'people's revenge'.
