[edit]DescriptionThe Bank of Scotland - geograph.org.uk - 612168.jpg |
English: The Bank of Scotland The headquarters of the Bank of Scotland on the Mound.
The bank and The Halifax Building Society became HBOS in 2001 in a £10.8 billion merger. At time of writing Lloyds TSB are now set to rescue Britain's biggest mortgage lender HBOS in a takeover which creates a 28 billion pound bank and a combined 38m customer pool. The deal was finalised on 18th September 2008. Lloyds TSB plc officially announced a confirmed agreement to take over HBOS plc in a deal worth 12.2 billion pounds (US$21.85-billion). Lloyds stated that it would continue to use 'The Mound' The_Mound as a Scottish headquarters and would continue the issue of Scottish bank notes just as they have done for years along with The Royal Bank and The Clydesdale Bank. (Further reading: The Bank Notes (Scotland) Act 1845). The deal will still require the agreement of at least 75% of the HBOS shareholders however and the trading name of the new institution is still to be officially decided, possibly to be finalised. Whether it will have all the brands Lloyds TSB Halifax Scotland has yet to be decided. For up to date information: HBOS |
