consistency of the paint. If the mix-ture of paint and medium is too thin—that is, there is too muchmedium—the mixture will remain in little mottled puddlesafter each finger dab. If the mixture is too stif¥ or too dry,you will have prints of the finger at each dab. When the paintand medium is working right, and is just-dry enough, eachdab will leave a little mark which will run together and asfingering goes on will gradually form an even tint. Note thetwo conditions—ist: If paint and medium mixture is too thin,it will leave littk puddles of paint after it, Hke foot prints on awet floor. 2nd: If mixture is too thick, it will stick to fingerand leave imprints of the finger on the slide. This may seem a little unnecessary attention to detail, butfingering a slide is one of the most important things, if notthe most important of the whole process—without it it is hardlypossible to paint any kind of a slide whatsoever. Now for a slide—get a seascape if possible, its easiest, andproceed as follows. Take a small quantity of Prussian Blueon the palette and mix with a little medium. Take your sHdeand paint it all over with this color. Lay your brush downand start to finger the color even, watching for the faults Ihave just told you of. You may have to wash the slide offfour or five times, but it will not be hurt if you are careful.Read the directions on fingering again. Finger from leftto right along the bottom edge, wipe the finger clean, andstart to finger the next section higher, being sure that theupper rows of dabs always overlap the one below it, andwiping finger clean at end of a row of dabs.
