Butcher & Sons, of London differs from the other existingmethods of daylight tank developing apparatus in that it re-quires neither changing box, nor apron. The tank is builtin the form of a tube into which the developer is pouredthrough an opening at the top. The roll of film is attachedto a holder at the top of the tank, the end of the spool isconnected with the plunger, and when the same is presseddown the film is unrolled within the tank, so that the developerhas complete access to the whole surface of the emulsion. Among the most interesting as well as the most valuableof the new processes, is the new Dye Impression processintroduced early in 1920. The new process of negative makingallows of much shorter exposures than the ordinary and theproduction of prints of almost any color in full daylight.None of the processes following the development of the nega-tive require a darkroom. When this has been com-pleted the negative is placed in a dye bath in which theshadow^s of the negative absorb the dye in proportion to theirstrength, w^hile the high-lights having been rendered imper-meable to the action of the dye by the first bath refuse totake up the dye and we therefore possess a dyed plate whichonly needs to be squeegeed to a prepared paper in order tosecure a print in any color, depending on the dye used tocolor the negative. After all the prints desired have beenmade the dye is removed from the negative, and the samemay be stored away until more prints are desired when theprocess is repeated. The materials necessary for the process,which is very economical, are furnished by the patentees—DyeImpression Photos, Ltd., London, England.
