This was perforated first by round holes. In theEarly English these perforations became more ornamental, thecircles were cusped in the inside, yet the pattern was not lost:the stone dominated the glass. In the Decorated work thissubdivision became more intricate from the insertion of seriesof circles (geometrical) to intricate patterns of tracery (curvi-linear). (Fig. 8.) Thewindows were not quite so pointed and the carvings not quiteso deep. A ball-ornament when used is characteristic. Thefoliage is no longer stiff-leafed, but beautifully curved andentwined. IV. THE PERPENDICULAR. This manner of building is purely English and is limitedto England. It is easily identified when seen. The mullionsof the windows run in vertical lines the entire length.
