Description

It is all over for another year and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the organisers on a job well done.

Technical stuff:

I used a Sigma DP2 to take this photograph and while I really like the camera it is not at all practical for street photography because of battery life.

Over the years I have tried to find a camera suitable for the style of Street Photography that I engage in. I started out with a sigma DP1 and then I got my hands-on a Sigma DP2 but both cameras proved to be unsuitable because of battery life so about two years ago I purchased a Sony NEX-5 which appeared to meet all my requirements until the NEX-7 was introduced. I now use the Sony NEX-7 about 90% of the time. Yesterday

I spent two hours taking photographs using the Sony NEX-7 and did not realize that the flash card had not been properly inserted so when I went to replay the card was blank (lesson learned - check every photograph as soon as you take it). This was not a real problem as I was also using a Sony NEX-VG10 for video and stills. In the case of the VG10 battery life is not an issue it goes for ever.

Today I decided to bring my DP2 as a backup but I was shocked when the battery became depleted after 29 shots. To put this in perspective I take at least 400 photographs per session.
