[edit]DescriptionThailand 4312 - So Many Rings.... (3731016057).jpg |
English: Long Neck Padong people are a unique hill tribe in Thailand as some of the women choose to wear a brass coil that over time elongates the neck as much as double.
They really do not have elongated necks at all. The heavy brass coils around the necks press down on the rib cage and causing the ribs to grown downwards. The weight of the coils also pushes the necks and shoulder muscles deep into the shoulders. All this creates the illusion of a longer neck, when in fact it is the upper body which has been shaped to give the appearance of a long neck. There is much speculation about why the rings are worn by the women of this tribe, many will tell you it is simply tradition. It is thought they use to protect them from tiger attacks as the tiger will go for the neck. They start at a young age and add to the rings over time. |
