Summary
[edit]DescriptionTeyler-damstraat.jpg |
English: Old entrance to Teyler's Museum in Haarlem on the Dam straat, and the original home entrance of Pieter Teyler van der Hulst whose legacy gives the museum its name. Now used as entrance to the 'gentleman's room' attached to the museum in the back (current 'Front' door of the museum is Spaarne 16), and for occasional tours of the private house. Pieter Teyler van der Hulst who lived here until his death in 1778, had already opened his extensive library to the public by forming a drawing club known as the Teeken-academie. After his death the house was used as a place to show his collection of art and books. The front of the house is clad in sandstone, to set it off against the neighboring homes. |
