Tenodera sinensis (Saussure, 1871) - Chinese praying mantis in Ohio, USA. (photo by Mary Ellen St. John) This species is not native to Ohio. It is an invasive from eastern Asia that was purposefully brought to America in the late 1800s. It has been outcompeting native praying mantises in Ohio. Praying mantises are predators - the Chinese praying mantis feeds on insects and small vertebrates.
