Summary
[edit]DescriptionTemplecombe low level railway station (site), Somerset (geograph 3755089).jpg |
English: Templecombe low level railway station (site), Somerset Opened in 1862 by the Dorset Central Railway, this station closed in 1887 when it was replaced by the Somerset & Dorset Railway with a single platform just behind the camera position. In reality, most S&D trains used the nearby station on the main London Waterloo-Yeovil station, and then reversed back out. After closure, this became an important railway goods yard and site of an engine shed. The former S&D line closed in 1966 and the site is now occupied by industrial units. Compare with ST7122 : Templecombe: locomotives lined up beside old S&D Lower Station taken slightly further north. |
