well, here goes nothing: vandkunsten at their most postmodern, but also most playful back in '83. 6 social housing units clad in cheap industrial siding, painted blue and inserted into a well-preserved 17th century context. and I love it, there is such a positive energy here. this is architecture learning from christiania. I think irreverent is the right word. in housing, the informal is a difficult but worthy objective; order and perfection, so often sought by architects, are not qualities that are easily reconsiled with the concept of home. anyone who has seen "mon oncle" by jacques tati will know what I mean and this house is more than a little related to monsieur hulot's roof top home. det blå hjørne, social housing, christianshavn, copenhagen 1983. architects: tegnestuen vandkunsten. www.vandkunsten.com |
