Summary
[edit]DescriptionTeampall Chiaráin - geograph.org.uk - 944655.jpg |
English: Teampall Chiaráin The ancient church known as Mainistir Chonnacht was rededicated and rebuilt in honour of St Ciarán (Kieran) who spent seven years on Inismore. The flat-headed west doorway dates from the 8th or 9th century, the Romanesque east window is 12th century and the north doorway (the present entrance) was opened up a few centuries later, when the original west door was blocked. In the background, across the waters of the North Sound, can be seen the islands in Kilkieran Bay and the mainland of Connemara. |
