Joseph Sawruk, Brian Finn and Jason Eckstein competed in the Half-Ironman Distance Triathlon’s relay portion Jan. 17 at the 2014 Israman in Eilat, Israel. As Team Tripod, the three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District employees in Israel represented the event’s lone U.S. entry. Eckstein swam 1.9 kilometers in 50 minutes, while Finn followed up with a 90-kilometer bike ride through the Eilat Mountains in 3:43. Sawruk then ran 21.1 kilometers in 1:40 to complete the final leg. Collectively, the trio covered the course in 6:21 to place ninth in the men’s division under a combined age of 119. They finished 32nd overall among 91 relay teams. Nearly 1,200 athletes took part in this year’s Israman. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers courtesy photo) |
