Even in the 1880s, teachers and students didn't spend all of their time in the classroom. In this 1887 photo, Duwamish Valley teacher Emma Huff and her young students stand in the lowlands near the Duwamish River, south of Seattle. Miss Huff later married Frederick O. Howland.
