| Description |
English: Sirkap (Urdu: سر کپ) is the name of an archaeological site on the bank opposite to the city of Taxila, Punjab, Pakistan.
The Sirkup has been inscribed in 1980 upon the World Heritage List of the Convention concerning the protection of the World culture and Natural heritage. Description on the list confirms the exceptional Universal value of a cultral sight, which deserves protection for the benefit of all humanity. The second city sight of ancient Taxila presently known as "Sirkup" after the name of a wicked character of a folk legend, "Raja Rasalu and Seven Deamons", who lived and ruled here. H.Hargreaves excavated the ancient city remains during 1912 - 1930 under the direction of Sir John Marshal and in 1944 - 45 by Sir Mortimer Wheeler and his colleages. |
