English: The T-55 tank is of Soviet origin and of 1950 vintage. This 'monster' was used extensively in Indo-Pak war of 1971 in several battles such as battle of Chachro and proved to he a Battle winning factor.
The T-55 surprised the enemy with its maneuverability, high velocity, low silhouette along with its exceptional capability of cruising long range with high speeds of upto 48 km per hour. The tank has a crew of four, weighs 36000 kg and had been the backbone of the Mechanised Formations for several years. It is equipped with 100 mm D-1 T Riffled main gun, 7.62 mm PKT Coaxial Machine Gun as secondary armament and 12.7 mm Anti Aircraft Machine Gun. |
