English: The Tandberg Microphone 5 (TM 5) was first released to the market in 1971 as Tandberg’s second—balanced—dynamic microphone. At 600 ohm output impedance, it is considered a low impedance microphone, and these types of microphones worked well with the second generation of fully transistorized tape recorders that Tandberg were releasing at the time.
The TM 5 features an all metal housing, and a built-in XL connector allowing use of a detachable cable. Tandberg marketed it as a microphone designed primarily for speech and song. Its robust construction also meant that it could do well as a reporter mic. This is further evidenced by its rejection of wind noise. Documents from the time suggest that this was the most expensive microphone Tandberg ever produced and sold and most of them seem to have ended up in the United States. The photograph features the microphone itself, a leather case, a snap-on microphone holder, and a microphone cable with connectors for the native XL[note-en 1] output of the microphone, and the 6.3 mm phone input commonly used on tape recorders in the U.S. at the time (European tape recorders often used DIN connectors for their microphone inputs). This set was imported in 2020 from the United States.
Norsk bokmål: Tandberg Mikrofon 5 (TM 5) ble først gjort tilgjengelig på markedet i 1971. Den var Tandbergs andre – balanserte – dynamiske mikrofon. Ved 600 ohms utgangsimpedanse er den betraktet som en «lavohmig» mikrofon. Denne typen fungerte godt med heltransistorerte båndopptakere og på denne tiden holdt Tandberg på med sin andre generasjon av disse.
TM 5 ble produsert i metall, og den innebygde XL-kontakten gjorde det mulig å benytte flere tilkoblingsledninger da disse enkelt kunne kobles fra. Tandberg markedsførte TM 5 som en mikrofon designet for opptak av tale og sang. Den robuste konstruksjonen gjorde den ypperlig til bruk av reportere. Tandberg påsto også at mikrofonen effektivt kunne motså støy fra for eksempel vind. Det ville da være fullt mulig å ta den i bruk utendørs som innendørs. Prislister fra 70-tallet tyder på at dette var den mest ekslusive og dyreste mikrofonen fra Tandberg og mye tyder på at de fleste endte opp i USA. Fotografiet viser selve mikrofonen, et etui i lær, en «snap-on» klype for festing til mikrofonstativer, og en mikrofonkabel som samtidig fungerer som overgang mellom den innebygde XL-kontakten[note-no 1], og en 6,3 mm-kontakt slik som vanligvis ble brukt på amerikanske båndopptakere i denne tidsperioden (Europeiske båndopptakere brukte ofte DIN-kontakter i sine mikrofoninnganger). Denne samlingen ble importert fra USA til Norge i 2020.
