Summary
[edit]DescriptionTaking the ceramics of Mungyeong to the world (4308621696).jpg |
6. Putting new pieces in the kiln to be fired. Using pine wood gives the works both natural and classical beauty. 7. There are 23 porcelain artists making their own ceramics in Mungyeong. 8. Kim writes his name on the gift box. For the last 200 years, Korean traditional ceramic art has been handed down in artisan Kim Jeong-ok’s family and now he is the seventh in his line to make pottery in the city of Mungyeong (pronounced Mun-gyeong). Kim, who is Korea’s Human Cultural Property number 105, learned all the secrets of celadon ceramics and buncheong stoneware from his father. His works are gaining more attention overseas. The Smithsonian Museum in the United States, the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada, and the Museum of East Asian Art in Germany have displayed Kim’s works. |
