DescriptionTail race, Castle watermill, Paderne, 2010 10 17 (1).JPG |
English: This watermill is known as Moinho de Água de Paderne (Paderne watermill) or Azenha do Castelo de Paderne (Watermill of Paderne Castle). It is located on the River Quarteira just to the north of Paderne Castle near the village of Paderne, Algarve, Portugal.
This watermill was built in unknown date, but it is known that a mill has stood here since the Arab period of occupation of the Algarve. In this image are the two tail race's at the rear of the mill. The tail race channelled the water back to the Quarteira River once it has powered the internall water wheels of the mill. |
