Description |
English: Vertical image. Center of the image is a small metal information wayside discussing the Fishhook Barrel cactus. Text below the plant name at the top reads "Often confused with a young saguaro, this cactus has curved spines and shallow roots. As it matures, the fishhook barrel cactus leans toward the greatest source of light, usually the southwest. The leaning will often cause the mature cactus to fall over, thereby uprooting itself. This plant's internal moisture forms a gooey paste containing oxalic acid. If ingested by humans or animals, this mucilage can cause severe intestinal reactions." Below the text is a colorful illustrated image of the top of a Fishhook Barrel cactus, full of yellow pineapple looking fruits. The small plant information wayside discussing the Fishhook Barrel cactus, along the Cactus Garden trail at the Redhills visitor center.
