Cyprian Bridge, 58th Regiment; (silver) hilt with triangular steel blade; decorative pommel, wrapped chain grip flanked by plain ferrule; decorative engraving on single oval shaped guard, ornamental pas d'ane rings; d-shaped knuckle guard with decorative edges and engraved flourishes on exterior; black leather scabbard; brass mounted; two rings; broken at end; scabbard stamped at top with makers details- PROSSER to HRH Prince Albert Charing Cross, London.

Notes Small sword with Colichemarde blade, England, late 18th century Belonged to Col. Cyprian Bridge, 58th Regiment. Colonel Cyprian Bridge (1807-1885) arrived in New Zealand in 1845 as a Major serving with the 58th Regiment. He took part in the battles of Puketutu (May 1845), Ohaeawai (July 1845), Ruapekapeka (Jan. 1846), and the action at Kapotai Pa (1845). Promotions- Brevet Colonel in 1854; Colonel 25 October 1858. He left New Zealand with the 58th Regiment on 17 November 1858 and was appointed to command the Regiment, retiring from this post in November 1860.
