Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Danse Macabre is a painting by Bernt Notke. A fragment of the late fifteenth-century painting, originally some 30 meters, is displayed in the St. Nicholas Church, (Niguliste kirik), Tallinn, Estonia. It is regarded as the best-known and as one of the most valuable medieval artworks in Estonia. It is the only surviving medieval Dance Macabre in the world painted on canvas.
Eesti: "Surmatants" on tuntud keskaegse kunstniku Bernt Notke unikaalne maalikunstiteos.Tegu on kahtlemata rahvusvaheliselt kõige tuntuma keskajast pärineva kunstiteosega Eestis. Niguliste kiriku "Surmatants" on maalitud õlivärvidega lõuendile mõõtudega 160×750 cm. Tegemist on algusosaga algselt oletatavasti umbes 30 m pikkusest maalist. 21. augustil 2018 avati Niguliste muuseumis maali "Surmatants" uus püsiekspositsioon. Erilahendusena valminud ekspositsiooniseinas on esimest korda Eestis kasutatud suuremõõtmelist eritellimusel valminud muuseumiklaasi. Teost kaitsev kaheksa meetri pikkune ja üle 600 kg kaaluv spetsiaalne Saksamaal valminud kaitseklaas lubab maali vaadelda võimalikult autentsel kujul.
