Description |
English: During the early years of cars, the Studebaker Company held long distance endurance contests with other car makers to see whose cars performed the best. In rural areas, roads were generally unpaved, with deep ruts and rocks. Studebaker's EMF cars generally raced well, even in these conditions.
This photo shows a Studebaker EMF car at Snoqualmie Pass in about 1910. The banner on the hood reads "EMF-30-Run. 15,000 miles in 18 months. Now making 2000 mile endurance run in ten days." The driver is dressed for the weather, and has put chains on the car's rear wheels for driving through the mud.
