Summary
[edit]DescriptionStrumaria discifera ssp.bulbifera Kew 1.jpg |
English: A cultivated specimen of Strumaria discifera ssp.bulbifera blooming in a terracotta pot in an Autumn display of container plants in the Davies Alpine House, Royal Botanic Gardens Kew.
Subspecies bulbifera (as its name suggests) differs from subspecies discifera in its forming large clumps of bulbs, rather than remaining solitary. An attractive species, but requiring close scrutiny to reveal its beauty - the tiny, starry flowers are easily overlooked when the plant is surrounded by other plant species with larger, showier blossoms. The Davies Alpine House has recently displayed several species of the not particularly well-known Amaryllidaceous genus Strumaria. |
