Description

The second of 3 large Striped Lychnis caterpillars, Shargacucullia lychnitis, feeding on Dark Mullein, Verbascum nigrum. A UK Biodiversity Action Plan species. Looks very similar to the Mullein moth but has pale greenish bands between the segments where mullein moth has patterns of small black spots. Whiteshute Ridge, Winchester, Hampshire, UK. 22nd July 2014.
