Description
English: This is a sketch by Danish merchant and author Ludvig Verner Helms ca. 1878 of his ship "Vestfold" aground off the south coast of Lapland. It was published in his book "Pioneering in the Far East and Journeys to California in 1849 and to the White Sea in 1878" in 1882. Helms was in the White Sea investigating several abandoned copper and silver mines dating from the 1730s. The digital image was taken from a digitized copy of the book created by the Google Book Search program.
