Are you a storyteller? Are you interested in how to create stories? If yes, then we have a podcast for you! The StoryFusion podcast is presented by Doro and Philipp, two experienced storytellers from Berlin, Germany. In each episode they pick one work from many different kinds of media and analyse it, looking for themes and techniques and what we can learn from it. In this episode we have a look at <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120679/?ref_=nv_sr_1">the film "Frida" from 2002,</a> starring Salma Hayek and directed by Julie Taymor, a biopic about the iconic Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. We dig deep into the production history of the film, talking about its burden, having been produced by serial abuser Harvey Weinstein, and how it fails to do its protagonist justice. From there we start a wider discussion about the pitfalls of turning biographies into pieces of entertainment and how films like "Frida" and the book it was based on rather reflect their own time than the time they show on the screen. |
