English: “Stumbling stone”-memorial for Karl and Charlotte Schneider, last living in St. Johann im Pongau, Wagrainerstraße 6, Land Salzburg, Austria,victims of the Holocaust. Stolperstein is the German word for "stumbling block", "obstacle", or "something in the way". The artist Gunter Demnig has given this word a new meaning, that of a small, cobblestone-sized memorial for a single victim of Nazism set in the pavement before the building in which this person lived or worked. The placement of these two stumbling blocks was initiated by the Association History Workshop St. Johann im Pongau.
Deutsch: Stolpersteine zur Erinnerung an Karl und Charlotte Schneider, zuletzt wohnhaft in St. Johann im Pongau, Wagrainerstraße 6, Land Salzburg, Österreich, Opfer des Holocaust. Die Stolpersteine sind ein Projekt des Künstlers Gunter Demnig. Mit diesen Gedenktafeln soll an das Schicksal der Menschen erinnert werden, die im Nationalsozialismus ermordet, deportiert, vertrieben oder in den Suizid getrieben wurden. Die Stolpersteine sind kubische Betonsteine mit einer Kantenlänge von zehn Zentimetern, auf deren Oberseite sich eine individuell beschriftete Messingplatte befindet. Sie werden in der Regel vor den letzten frei gewählten Wohnhäusern der NS-Opfer niveaugleich in das Pflaster des Gehweges eingelassen. Die Verlegung dieser zwei Stolpersteine wurde vom Verein Geschichtswerkstatt St. Johann im Pongau initiiert. |
