Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Stockton Wood near Stockton. Stockton Wood consists of 64 hectares of ancient and semi-natural woodland, some of which has been replanted. The eastern end of the wood, about 15 hectares, is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) that includes the chalk downland of Stockton Down to the north and west of the wood. The wood also includes evidence of Grim's Ditch, an Iron Age earthwork, 568559; a Romano-British settlement, 537993; and the Roman road from the Mendips to Old Sarum. This view, looking east, is within the SSSI and close to halfway along a path that runs east-west for almost the whole length of Stockton Wood, about 1km.
