Summary
[edit]DescriptionStile into churchyard - geograph.org.uk - 1456224.jpg |
English: Stile into churchyard This may be a very old access point for the church, leading as it does directly from the lane to the north door. The churchyard is circular which suggests great antiquity and although the church is now dedicated to St Dogmael (or Dogfael) "there maybe an earlier dedication to St Egidius or St Giles, known in Welsh as St Silin" (Saints and Stones, Davies and Eastham, Gomer 2002). Its very positioning where the little Afon Wern and several smaller streams meet is likely to have been significant. |
