English: A roundel made for Jacopo de Pazzi, councillor to Rene of Anjou (1466-78), King of Naples. Made by Luca della Robia (about 1400-82) and workshop. The stemma was displayed at Pazzi's family villa at Montughi to indicate his royal favour. The item shows Renee's arms, initials and motto (Dardent Desir or "Burning Desire"). In the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
Method: Tin-glazed terracotta. Museum item number 6740-1860 The original is sized five to ten feet across. |
