Description |
English: Starting in 1884, the steam-propelled scow "Squak" made biweekly trips between Laurel Shade Landing (south of Madison Park) up Lake Washington and along Sammamish Slough to Tibbits Landing, now Issaquah. Passengers could get on or off at Juanita, Bothell, Woodinville, Redmond and other landings along the route. The scow's shallow draft made it easier to navigate over sandbars and logs in the slough. This photo, probably taken sometime during the 1880s, shows the steamer "Squak" with a load of passengers and freight. Several passengers hold cattails, probably picked along the trip through Sammamish Slough. The vessel stayed in service until the early 1890s. Original photograph: 188-?. Copied after 1975 by the Museum of History and Industry.
