Summary
[edit]DescriptionStatue of a Draped Woman, So-Called Lucilla.jpg |
English: BNL BNP Paribas Group Collection.
Pentelic marble, head in Thasian marble. the heas has been identified as a portrait of Lucilla, daughter of Marcus Aurelius and Faustina the Younger. The figure is wearing a full-length chiton furrowed by thick folds and covered by a himation falling from her head in a complex drapery. Her youthful face is framed by parted wavy hair on which the crown sits. Her portraits were widespread from her marriage to Lucius Verus in AD 164, when she was 15 years old, until his death in AD 169. The work is thus from the 2nd Century AD, and is similar to statues of divinities from the second half of the 4th Century BC. |
