Summary
[edit]DescriptionStatue of King Charles II at Stocks Market.png |
English: Detail of an oil painting of the Stocks Market in central London. The statue was originally made by an unknown Italian sculptor as a monument to John Sobieski, King of Poland. The statue was erected at Stocks Market in 1672 to represent King Charles II trampling Oliver Cromwell under his horse's hooves, with the head recarved by Jasper Latham. The market closed in 1737 and the statue was later moved to Newby Hall in Yorkshire.[1] |
