Description
English: Ornate fountain on St. Helena Island, 1928. One of the ornate fountains near the rear of the superintendants's house. When first constructed the fountains blew water high into the sky. To achieve this, selected prisoners were hidden over the edge of a steep bank on the north side of the island. Here a pump was worked vigorously up and down to force water through the fountain jets. The fountain is made of coral. (Description supplied with photograph.).
