St John’s Cathedral is believed to be the last Gothic Cathedral in the world to be completed. It was designed by architect John Pearson and has taken over 100 years to complete. The 13 metre tall final tower, weighing 22 tonnes, was lifted into place on the 11th of November 2008. The cathedral is believed to be the last Gothic Cathedral in the world to be completed. The Archbishop of Brisbane, Dr Phillip Aspinall, officially consecrated the completed Cathedral on Thursday 29th October 2009, 108 years after the laying of the foundation stone. The Cathedral dominates the smaller buildings in the foreground of the image. Pyrmont Private Hospital is in the foreground. |
