Description
English: Japanese General Adachi surrenders to Australians, New Guinea, 1945. Lieutenant General Hatazo Adachi (Commander Japanese 18th Army) being driven to meet with Major General Horace Robertson (GOC 6th Australian Division) where he handed over his sword and signed paperwork for the unconditional surrender of his forces in New Guinea, Cape Wom 13th September 1945. Australian soldiers surround the jeep the General is seated in and his sword can be seen resting between his knees.
