Summary
[edit]DescriptionStanding stone near Millisle - geograph.org.uk - 662763.jpg |
English: Standing stone near Millisle. The far side of 662747 where the inscription was, but this has sadly been lost (rather than a carved inscription the letters had been attached to the granite, clearly not well enough to withstand the harsh northerly winds).
The memorial is to a Major Richard Gustavus Heyn, the last owner of the once famous Ulster Steamship Company 827248. At the outbreak of World War One, Heyn joined the Royal Flying Corps and was later appointed Chief Flying Instructor at Marske in North Yorkshire. |
