English: Standing Tara, Bronze Statue from Pala, 9th Century CE, Nalanda, Bihar. Presently kept at the National Museum in Delhi, India. Dimensions: Ht. 50.1 cm, Wd. 17.5 cm, Dep. 11.7 cm.
This image of Tara, standing on a circular lotus pedestal bears floral motifs. The right hand is in varada-mudra (gift bestowing attitude), and in the left she holds the long stalk of a full-blown lotus flower, issuing from the left side of the base. The figure is surrounded by an almost oval aureole (prabhavali) with a flaming border, showing lotus flowers and petals inside. She wears an elaborate headdress with a crest; the garments are diaphanous and have drapery folds. |
