Description
English: St Swithin's church - south transept window By William Wailes. This is the south transept south window - some of the segments have been damaged and were replaced by clear glass. The chancel is dated by the C12 pillar piscina; the nave and the long south transept - making the church L-shaped > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893531 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893547 - date from the 13th century; the tower was added a century later. The church > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893331 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893542 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893553 was rebuilt and restored in the 18th and 19 centuries but has retained its C14 font > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893554. The stained glass windows are C19 - the east window > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893544 was made by Alexander Gibbs and the south transept windows - one seen here, see also > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/893550 are by William Wailes. The grass in the eastern and northern sections of the churchyard has not been cut and conceals an a 13th century stone coffin lid. The church is kept locked but a key is available on request.
