Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Peters Mission chapel and nuns residence - near Cascade Montana - 1897.jpg |
English: Looking east at the expanded chapel, bell tower, and single-story wooden nuns resident at St. Peter's Mission near Cascade, Montana, in the United States. A group of Ursuline nuns and novitiates pose in front of the buildings. This photograph, taken in 1897, shows that these buildings -- the earliest built at St. Peter's Mission -- were still standing and largely unchanged 16 years after the mission's founding.
Note that at the end of the resident closest to the viewer the clapboard one-story wooded building turns into a very low log cabin, and a next to it (closest to the viewer, on the far right) a more traditionally-sized log cabin. These two structures were originally adjacent to the chapel and connected to it, and served as residences for the Jesuit priests who founded St. Peter's. The log cabins were moved and the one-story clapboard structure built in 1882. |
