Summary

[edit]
Description
English: St Matthew's Church is an Art Nouveau church designed by WD McLennan and built in 1905-07. This view is from the front centre looking towards he pulpit showing the crown of thorns above.

Photographer's notes: I took this photograph with a Sony A33 camera and Tamron 17-50mm lens at 17mm, mounted on a tripod. In order to capture the dynamic range I took three photographs at ISO 100, f/8 from 1/10 to 3.2s. Lens flare was a problem with shooting directly at the side window, so I repeated the brightest two photographs with my hand shielding the window. I used Lightroom to apply lens distortion-correction and a mild degree of noise reduction. Then I aligned and hand blended the shielded and unshielded pairs to produce an image with better contrast in the lower section. I aligned and merged all the photographs in Photoshop to produce a 16-bit highlight-compressed tiff that was re-imported to Lightroom. Finally I adjusted the levels and used a gentle brush to reduce the glare in the upper section.
