DescriptionSt Leonard's School at Mayfield - geograph.org.uk - 40891.jpg |
English: St Leonard's School at Mayfield. The imposing entrance gate to St Leonards facing the high street. Mayfield's 'Palace' history is associated with the Archbishops of Canterbury dating from 14th century. After Henry's reformation the old palace was given to noblemen, one of the most famous being Sir Thomas Gresham. The school was founded by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus in mid 1800's and new buildings established. It is a Roman Catholic boarding and day school educating girls aged 11-18. |
