Summary
[edit]DescriptionSt Lawrence Jewry and St Mary Magdalen, City of London (2586092295).jpg |
The church serves the united parishes of St Lawrence Jewry and St Mary Magdalen, Milk Street. In fact both churches were destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. St Lawrence was rebuilt in the 1670s to one of Christopher Wren's designs – but St Mary's was not rebuilt and the parish was united with St Lawrence. St Lawrence himself was a deacon in 3rd-century Rome who was martyred in 258. A representation of the grid-iron used for the martydom is included in the church's weather-vane. |
