Description New Orleans. St. Charles Avenue looking up from Canal Street, late 19th century. Note on the left of the 2nd block (lake side of the 200 block) is the second St. Charles Hotel Building, which replaced the first St. Charles Hotel after that burned in 1841, and which met a similar fate in April of 1894 after which it was replaced by the third building of the same name [1]. Back of tram seen on street; presumably still horse or mule drawn at the time.
