[edit]DescriptionSt. Valentine's Day Massacre (3708547522).jpg |
The St. Valentine's Day Massacre happened here on Feb. 14, 1929. This is where the S.M.C. Cartage Company warehouse stood until it was demolished in 1967. Al Capone's men, disguised as police, shot seven members of George "Bugs" Moran's gang (actually five gangsters plus two non-gangsters, a retired optometrist and a car mechanic.) The building on the left with the marble columns was there at the time and can be seen in period news photos of the massacre. The empty lot to the right is where the warehouse stood before its demolition. Located at 2122 N. Clark St. |
