Summary

[edit]
Description

The magnificent church at Winchelsea. It had been planned to be a lot bigger, but the frequent raids by the French in the 15th Century put a stop to that.

As it stands, the church is quite large for the size of the town, but it is actually just the choir of the original plan, with the ruins of the transepts on either side.

Had it been completed it would have been of cathedral proportions and, no doubt, would have had a larger spire/clocktower.
