After the sea-lions, the remainder of ourpinnipeds belong to what is called the HairSeal Family, which should be known simply asthe Seal Family, as separated from the sea-lions.Like the sea-lions, they are flesh-eaters, livingon both land and sea, feeding chiefly upon fish.Their bodies are fat, almost shapeless, and lieupon the ground like bags of meal. Nearly all the seals have large eyes, roundedheads, short necks, and coarse hair of no valuesave to the Eskimo. They have no outerears. Some of them are quite social in theirhabits, but a few are rather solitary.
