| Description |
English: <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/ledgard/1449230506">Beswick</a>, to the east of Manchester City centre, is traditionally an area of Victorian back-to-back houses. I lived there briefly many years ago and remember well the community spirit. Gradually these houses, and the communities, have been demolished and replaced with low-cost modern housing (see <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/ledgard/1448381969">Beswick 2</a>). Within a twenty year period this low-cost mews-style housing has itself become derelict and is now under a regeneration scheme to build yet more modern penthouse style accommodation (see <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/ledgard/1448385397">Beswick 3</a>). Are we simply speeding up the "Slums of Tomorrow' housing programme? |
